The Division of Commissioned Corps Training and Career Development (DCCTCD) and the Commissioned Corps Training Academy (COTA) are seeking officers interested in a 2 week career development opportunity.

With the overwhelming response of officer’s interested in career development training, Corps leadership is offering an exciting opportunity for senior lieutenants or junior lieutenant commanders to attend the Officer Mid-Level Course (OMC) in-residence from June 5 through June 17, 2011.

The OMC is designed to prepare the Commissioned Corps of the U.S. Public Health Service (Corps) officer for successful assignments as an officer and leader in a dynamic public health environment. It builds on the foundations set forth in the Officer Basic Course and prepares the officers with knowledge, disposition, and skills necessary to serve as mid-level officers and future leaders of the Corps.

To maximize the learning experience, the officers volunteering to attend the in-resident course will be required to adhere to the following expectations;
  • reside at the training facility (local individuals will not be able to travel home),
  • dedicate their full attention to the course (no agency work will permitted),
  • be prepared to wear all policy required uniforms (Service Dress Blues, Battle Dress Uniforms and Summer Whites), and
  • commit to fully participate in all team building activities (i.e. self-paced group daily physical training activities).
The course will be conducted at the Holiday Inn, Gaithersburg, Maryland. Travel, housing and meals would be provided and funded through Office of the Surgeon General (OSG) for all participants of the course.

All interested officers will be accepted on a first come, first served basis. To enroll for this course, officers must review and complete the expectations form  (then scan and E-mail it to mark.mckinnon@hhs.gov or fax to 240-453-6141. Submission of this completed form is the only method of enrollment accepted.
