The USPHS Commissioned Corps is committed to our mission to protect, promote, and advance the health and safety of the nation. Public Health Service officers are trained and equipped to provide crucial public health leadership, assist with policy development, advance innovation and science, provide essential care services and respond to national and global public health emergencies. Through our Active Duty Regular Corps, our Public Health Response Strike Team (PHERST) and our Ready Reserve Corps, we remain responsive and available to rapidly deploy in the service of health.

CCWIAB CPO Leadership Panel: Positioning Yourself for Success
On January 12, 2016, the Commissioned Corps Women’s Issues Advisory Board (CCWIAB) hosted a Chief Professional Officer (CPO) Leadership Panel: Positioning Yourself for Success. The panel featured three female Commissioned Corps CPOs: RADM Pamela Schweitzer (Pharmacy), RADM Terri Clark (Veterinary), and CAPT Madeline Michael (Dietitian). The webinar focused on unique career experiences, overcoming obstacles, words of wisdom and useful strategies for positioning yourself for future success. Approximately 322 officers attended the virtual session.

In 2011, the CCWIAB was established by the 18th Surgeon General, VADM Regina Benjamin. The board was created in recognition of the importance of focusing on issues unique to women in the workforce, women in leadership positions within an organization, distribution of women in various professions and occupations, interpersonal violence, and work-life issues.
