Public Health Service officers are trained and equipped to provide crucial public health leadership, assist with policy development, advance innovation and science, provide essential care services and respond to national and global public health emergencies. Through our Active Duty Regular Corps, our Public Health Response Strike Team (PHERST) and our Ready Reserve Corps, we remain responsive and available to rapidly deploy in the service of health.

Commissioned Corps Headquarters (CCHQ), is within the Office of the Surgeon General (OSG), Office of the Assistant Secretary for Health (OASH), US. Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS). CCHQ is responsible for all functions regarding personnel career management, administration, medical affairs, recruitment, assignments, operations, readiness, deployment, and policy for the Commissioned Corps of the U.S. Public Health Service. Under the leadership of the Office Director, who reports to the Office of the Surgeon General, provides staff support for executing the mission of the U.S. Public Health Service Commissioned Corps. CCHQ provides services to over 13,000 Active Duty and Retirees to duty stations around the world and is located in Rockville, Maryland.
