As Public Health Service Officers and America’s Health Responders, we stand ready to preserve public health and national security during national or global health emergencies. Our mission is to be out the door as soon as requested, as this is an “all hands on deck” situation. All Corps officers were placed on involuntary deploy or "alert" status effective Wednesday, March 25, 2020, irrespective of the 'on-call month' status. Under Commissioned Corps Directive 121.02, "Deployment and Readiness," as directed by Assistant Secretary for Health, Commissioned Corps Headquarters will deploy Commissioned Corps officers assigned to HHS OpDivs/StaffDivs, either voluntarily or involuntarily and without supervisory approval, who are not considered mission critical, for deployments, under the current National Emergency. Mission critical requests sent to CCHQ are not final until the request is approved by the CCHQ Director as per the POM 821.76 ”Deployment Procedures”. An officer with a non-HHS organization may be deployed in accordance with the Memorandum of Agreement/Understanding between the Public Health Service Commissioned Corps and the non-HHS organization.

Interagency Institute for Federal Health Care Executives (IAI)
BACKGROUND
The Interagency Institute for Federal Health Leaders is a two-week course that has been offered semi-annually for seventy years. It is conducted under the sponsorship of the five federal health services, the Departments of the Army, Navy, Air Force, Veteran Affairs, and the US Public Health Service. The Institute is held under the auspices of the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences, Bethesda MD, with support from the Henry M. Jackson Foundation.
PURPOSE
The IAI for Federal Health Leaders serves to provide an opportunity for seasoned, practicing federal health professional to examine some of the current issues in health care policy and management and to explore their potential impact on the federal health care system. The design of the course assumes a high level of conceptual knowledge and operating ability on the part of the participants. Given the intelligence and sophistication of these selected executives, the faculty maximizes the learning experience by presenting new materials resulting from research and experience, as well as examples and case studies from the contemporary national health policy decision-making process. Faculty members also seek involvement and interaction by the participants to stimulate understanding and communication across traditional agency boundaries.
OBJECTIVES
- To promote excellence in patient care by fostering the concepts of teamwork, evidence-based practice, application of information technology, outcomes-oriented performance improvement and responsible leadership.
- To provide a forum for the participating senior health leaders to present their views on the appropriateness of present and future courses of action related to health policy, management, practice, and academics.
- To provide an opportunity for the senior federal health care executive to examine the most pressing current issues affecting health care policy and management and the provision of health care services.
- To explore the potential impact of these issues and trends on the participants’ organizations and professional practices.
- To foster communication, sharing, mutual understanding and networking within the federal health care sector.
- To increase the level of enthusiasm and pride in the work of federal health care leaders in a variety of settings.
Upon completion of this course, attendees will be able to:
- Describe how political, policy, economic and management trends impact health care and population health and apply this knowledge in future planning.
- Evaluate actions/activities that should be addressed to promote excellence in patient care and health promotion, i.e., teamwork, evidence-based practice, application of information technology, outcomes-oriented performance improvement and responsible leadership.
