Public Health Service officers are trained and equipped to provide crucial public health leadership, assist with policy development, advance innovation and science, provide essential care services and respond to national and global public health emergencies. Through our Active Duty Regular Corps, our Public Health Response Strike Team (PHERST) and our Ready Reserve Corps, we remain responsive and available to rapidly deploy in the service of health.

VADM Murthy Recognizes Graduates of OBC 79!
The Division of Commissioned Corps Personnel and Readiness (DCCPR) and the Commissioned Officer Training Academy wish to extend congratulations to graduates of the Officer Basic Course (OBC) 79.
OBC training is a 2-week course of study for new calls to active duty to the Commissioned Corps of the U.S. Public Health Service (Corps). Officers learn about the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), the Commissioned Corps of the USPHS, and life within the uniformed services. OBC establishes a foundation of knowledge and training on career development, uniformed service customs and courtesies, force readiness and deployment, leadership, and other essential areas in preparation for a Corps career.

LCDR Brian Talley received the Distinguished Graduate Award from RADM Newton Kendig, Medical Director, Bureau of Prisons, Health Services Division. LCDR Talley is a dental officer assigned to the Indian Health Service in Ignacio, Colorado.
