The USPHS Commissioned Corps is committed to our mission to protect, promote, and advance the health and safety of the nation. Public Health Service officers are trained and equipped to provide crucial public health leadership, assist with policy development, advance innovation and science, provide essential care services and respond to national and global public health emergencies. Through our Active Duty Regular Corps, our Public Health Response Strike Team (PHERST) and our Ready Reserve Corps, we remain responsive and available to rapidly deploy in the service of health.

Health Strategy and Innovation

Several career choices are available to you on the preventive health career pathway.

You have the option to choose any track aligned to your subject matter expertise and interests with the ability to crossover tracks at any point in your career. You may also choose to go to another career pathway at any point in time.

While depicted as a specific point on the graphic, you may choose to move to another career pathway (e.g., Applied Public Health, National Security, Health Strategy and Innovation) at any point in time based on their interests and qualifications.

At any point along this pathway, you may choose to move to another track. The arrows between tracks are illustrative; some PHS officers may choose to spend their careers on a single track, in which case they would not utilize the arrows that designate where tracks can be changed.
