The USPHS Commissioned Corps is committed to our mission to protect, promote, and advance the health and safety of the nation. Public Health Service officers are trained and equipped to provide crucial public health leadership, assist with policy development, advance innovation and science, provide essential care services and respond to national and global public health emergencies. Through our Active Duty Regular Corps, our Public Health Response Strike Team (PHERST) and our Ready Reserve Corps, we remain responsive and available to rapidly deploy in the service of health. -
Promotion InformationForce Readiness InformationTo be considered for promotion, officers must be basic ready or “Qualified” both for the pre-board and post-board periods. - Pre-board: 1 September of the year preceding the Promotion Year (PY) up to and including 1 January of the PY.
- Post-board: 1 February up to and including the first day of the month on which an officer’s promotion would be effective or the first day of the month in which the CCHQ Director forwards their recommendation to the Surgeon General in order to be approved for promotion.
Officers who lapse in readiness or have a “Not Qualified” readiness status during the above time periods are not eligible for promotion. Additionally, officers may be subject to adverse actions due to readiness lapse(s) as outlined in the policies below: - CCI 241.01, Readiness and Duty Requirements
