Joint Medical Executive Skills Institute (JMESI) Intermediate Executive Skills (IES)
BACKGROUND
The JMESI Intermediate Executive Skills Course provides education and training on leadership and management skills necessary to successfully serve in an intermediate-level leadership position within a DHA medical treatment facility (MTF). The course is designed to facilitate attainment of selected Joint Medical Executive Skills core competencies as identified by a Tri- Service review board of MHS senior leaders.
PURPOSE
The purpose of this course is to facilitate achievement of joint medical executive skills competencies expected of intermediate-level leaders within a DHA Market or MTF.
OBJECTIVES
Upon completion of this course, attendees will be able to:
- To understand the DHA mission and strategic plan.
- To sharpen skills consistent with professional expectations required to serve in an intermediate-level leadership position within a DHA Market or MTF.
- To develop the ability to communicate effectively, lead change initiatives, and manage resources.
This course will be a virtual online course and will be held three times per year. The course has a blended learning, two-phase format. Platform for delivery will be MS Teams.
Phase One/prerequisite course work: Students must complete 11 web-based training (WBT) modules available through Joint Knowledge Online site.

- Select the “Course Catalog” tab.
- Type the acronym "JMESI" in the Course or Curriculum Name search box.
- Scroll down to bottom of the page to see curricula search box.
- In the Curricula results box locate "JMESI – Intermediate Executive Skills (IES) Course (Phase 1)- Distance Learning" and click "Enroll".
- Click "Acknowledge"in the pop-up box.
- You will receive an Enrollment Notification – Course Welcome email from the JKO LCMS with instructions. You may then begin completing the 12 required JMESI modules for your course.
Phase Two: Students will attend a 4-day virtual course hosted on MS Teams or similar platform.
Once you have completed the 11 courses in Phase 1, you will be eligible to enroll in JMESI IES course by searching for course number US400, Course Name: JMESI - DHA Intermediate Executive Skills Course. If you have not completed Phase 1, you will be redirected to the DL courses needed before they can enroll in US400.
Search for course number US400.
Then look for course name: JMESI - DHA Intermediate Executive Skills Course (32 hr.)
Select “Show Availability”
Then select “Acknowledge.”
Then “Enroll”
This will place you in “processing request.”
All personnel who are on the processing request list will be contacted a few weeks before the course start date.
TARGET AUDIENCE: Officer MHS personnel serving in an intermediate-level (department-level) leadership position within a DHA Market or MTF or had experience working in similar environment.
**Must have some experience in a clinical setting at a government agency at the time of registration.
**Pharmacists, Nurses, Engineers, Data Analyst, Medical, Dental, Scientist, Environmental Health, Veterinarian, Safety Quality Officers, Health Services Officer, Dietitian, Therapist, and New PHERST Teams are strongly encouraged to apply.

**There is no tuition to attend. However, the officer's Agency will continue to pay for salary and per diem.
